Calculate Sale Price, Double Discounts, Profit Margin & Markup
Whether you are a shopper looking for festive deal savings or an e-commerce seller pricing your inventory on Meesho, Flipkart, or Amazon, understanding discount formulas helps protect your margins.
Retail stores and e-commerce platforms often advertise "50% Off + Extra 20% Off". Customers often mistakenly assume this totals 70% Off. In reality, discounts compound sequentially:
Margin and Markup both represent profitability, but use different bases:
| Cost Price (COGS) | Selling Price | Profit Amount | Profit Margin % | Markup % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹100 | ₹125 | ₹25 | 20.0% | 25.0% |
| ₹100 | ₹150 | ₹50 | 33.3% | 50.0% |
| ₹100 | ₹200 | ₹100 | 50.0% | 100.0% |
| ₹100 | ₹300 | ₹200 | 66.7% | 200.0% |
| ₹100 | ₹500 | ₹400 | 80.0% | 400.0% |
Discount Amount = Original Price x (Discount % / 100). Final Sale Price = Original Price - Discount Amount.
Double discounts are applied sequentially. The first 50% is deducted from the original price, and the extra 20% is applied to the reduced subtotal, resulting in an effective total discount of 60%, not 70%.
Profit Margin is profit divided by Selling Price (Margin % = Profit / Selling Price x 100). Markup is profit divided by Cost Price (Markup % = Profit / Cost Price x 100).
Yes! Our calculator allows applying optional GST/Tax slabs (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to the discounted subtotal to give the exact final checkout price.
